New route for the Cotswold Way

On Thursday 10th May 2012, the first major route change on the Cotswold Way for the last three years will open through Lineover Wood.

The present route from Ravensgate Common to Dowdeswell Reservoir follows a very steep and dangerous path down Ravensgate Hill. The new route will use existing footpaths to keep to a higher level across the common, following the top of the escarpment through Lineover Wood and descending a more manageable slope before re-joining the old route through the eastern edge of the woods.

The new route will be safer and more sustainable, and also gives some wider ranging views from the top of the common and east of Lineover Wood. It has only been made possible by the hard work and dedication of a number of volunteers working with the Wardens Service of the Cotswolds AONB.
