"A Brill Walk"
In a bid to make local youngsters more aware of the Yorkshire Wolds Way, groups of children from ten junior schools were recently taken on short walks along the Way with Special Projects Officer Alan Staniforth.
The aim of the walk was not only to make youngsters more aware of the National Trail but also to provide an opportunity to look more closely at the countryside and talk about many of the issues involved in living and working on the Yorkshire Wolds.
Following the walk teachers carried out follow up work at school based on the National Curriculum, part of which involved a poster competition to encourage other people to walk the Yorkshire Wolds Way. The winner from each school received a small prize and the overall winning poster was framed and presented to the school.
Over 200 children took part in the project. In the words of one, " I learnt a lot, it was brill!"
Judging an overall winner was difficult - but was eventually awarded to Lucy of Mount Pleasant C. E. Junior School, Marlet Weighton
