The Ridgeway National Trail travels for 87 miles (139km) through the North Wessex Downs and the Chilterns Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty in southeast England

The status of paths that make up the Trail

The  87 miles (139km) of The Ridgeway are made up of the following types of path:

Highest point on the Trail

This is 276m above sea level and is just southeast of Liddington Castle in Wiltshire on the western half of The Ridgeway at grid reference SU214793 (NB there’s nothing there currently to tell you it’s the highest point!).  It’s on two of our circular routes: Liddington Castle Circular Walk and the Aldbourne Circular Route.

On the eastern half of The Ridgeway the highest point is 257m above sea level. It's at the monument on Coombe Hill at grid reference SP849068 in the Chilterns where there are great views over the Vale of Aylesbury.  It’s also on one of our circular walks, the Views of the Vale Circular Walk.
