Great feedback from first walk:  The `After Offa’ project Winter Story Walk on February 13th was a great success. Despite the pouring rain, 40 people walked from Chirk Bank Post office to Bronygarth. So much local knowledge was shared all along the route with stories about stone bridges never used and now removed, a lost monks’ way, and playing cricket in the ancient castle boar park. The project director, Helen East, retold local memories of the miners’ boots clacking along the road, the cobbler’s shop, the POW taking the farmers' children fishing, Celtic heads found by awell, suckling pigs in sacks on a grandfather’s back, and of course, Mr Forster, the last of the canal lengthsmen in his flat bottomed punt. With folktales about flora and fauna we passed, we literally talked our way from A to B and the welcome tea and cakes at the Old Schoolhouse. Many thanks to all participants.
