The trail passes the earthworks and masonry remains of Thurnham Castle a typical motte and bailey castle built in the 11th or 12th century and lying in ruins for many years. Thurnham Castle is to be incorporated into White Horse Wood a Kent County Council Community Woodland project currently being developed. The church in the hamlet of Thurnham is worth a visit and contains the grave of famous Victorian cricketer Alfred Mynn (1807-61).
