RUNNING HADRIAN'S WALL PATH
For very good conservation reasons running events along Hadrian's Wall Path are discouraged - the National Trail is geared up to manage walkers, not runners. The risk of erosion to the underlying archaeology is much greater with runners than walkers. We are, however, working in partnership with a new community-led organisation vith a view to designing alternative challenge routes, of varying length, within the World Heritage Site.
These routes will not follow the Trail but will cirss-cross the Wall and provide a quality experience of the World Heritage Site. It will take some time before these routes are ready so please be patient and in the meantime we will be very grateful if you decide to not organise running events along the Trail.
WALKING HADRIAN'S WALL PATH
If you are organising a walk for a large group or for a charity event, the following information is for your guidance. It includes information about the various policies, guidelines and available assistance from the many landowners and organisations that have a vested interest in the conservation of the monument and the management of public access along its length.
The advice attempts to strike a balance between our need to manage and conserve the Hadrian's Wall World Heritage Site, and your desire for an enjoyable event.
