The Yorkshire coast has been notorious for shipwrecks. A map with a pin showing the sites of all the shipwrecks down the ages would resemble a pincushion! Many of the wrecks, particularly in the early days, were a result of poorly maintained vessels or bad seamanship. But war and weather have also played their part.
