Pannierways - The Road to Whitby Pier!The ancient town of Whitby is only reached by sea or from across the North York Moors. As recently as the late 18th century travellers crossing the moors between Pickering and Whitby were advised to take a guide with them and make a will before they set off, such was the nature of the terrain at the time!
